Job Title: Chinese – English Translator / Interpreter

Location: Abuja (FCT) 
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Description

  • We are seeking a skilled and professional Chinese-English Translator/Interpreter to join our team in Nigeria.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for providing accurate and fluent translation (written) and interpretation (spoken) services between Chinese (Mandarin) and English in various business, technical, or diplomatic contexts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate documents, reports, emails, and other written materials from Chinese to English and vice versa.
  • Provide simultaneous or consecutive interpretation for meetings, conferences, negotiations, and other events.
  • Ensure translations are culturally appropriate and maintain the original meaning.
  • Assist in cross-cultural communication and liaise between Chinese and English-speaking clients/partners.
  • Proofread and edit translated materials for accuracy and consistency.

Requirements

  • Native or near-native proficiency in Chinese (Mandarin)  and  fluent in English
  • Minimum HSK Level 4 (or equivalent certification) in Chinese proficiency.
  • Proven experience in translation and interpretation, preferably in business, legal, technical, or diplomatic fields.
  • Strong understanding of Chinese and Nigerian/Western cultures to ensure contextually appropriate translations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Translation, Linguistics, Chinese Studies, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working in Nigeria or West Africa
  • Familiarity with industry-specific terminology (e.g., oil & gas, construction, trade, legal).
