Job Title: Payable Accountant and Account Team Lead
Location: Oyo
Job Overview
- This role is responsible for overseeing the accounts payable function and supervising the day-to-day operations of the accounting team.
- The ideal candidate will ensure accurate financial reporting, timely processing of vendor invoices, reconciliation of supplier statements, prompt payments, and effective support during month-end closing activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Process vendor invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
- Match invoices with purchase orders and receiving documents.
- Prepare and execute payment runs (cheques, bank transfers, etc.).
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate records of all accounts payable transactions.
- Assist with month-end closing and accrual entries.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and tax regulations (e.g. VAT, withholding tax).
- Oversee day-to-day activities of the accounting team (AP, AR, GL, bank reconciliation).
- Supervise and support team members in their roles and responsibilities.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports.
- Monitor team KPIs and ensure timely month-end and year-end close.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax authorities during audits.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, and internal controls.
Qualifications, Requirements & Experience
- B.Sc. / HND in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
- 3–5 years’ experience in accounts payable/finance operations.
- ICAN/ACCA qualification (or in progress) preferred.
- Familiarity with accounting software.
- Gender Preference: Female.
Skills:
- Strong numeracy and financial reporting skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, QuickBooks, or similar).
- Detail-oriented with high integrity.
- Ability to lead and manage a team of account officers.
- Ability to motivate, train, and develop team members, ensuring they meet performance expectations.
- Effective communication with team members and external stakeholders (customers and suppliers).
- Ability to analyse data, identify issues, and implement solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and tasks.
- Ability to think strategically, identifying opportunities for process improvement and financial optimization.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft office tools especially Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and Project.
Benefits
- Salary: N200,000 – N250,000 per month.
