Job Title: Senior Technical Safety Engineer
Location: Lagos
Role Overview
- The Senior Technical Safety Engineer supports the Lead Technical Safety Engineer in executing the technical safety scope for the conceptual study.
- They will actively participate in safety studies, contribute to philosophy documents, and assist in developing preliminary safety assessments and drawings.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Study Participation: Actively participate in HAZID / CDRA / Preliminary HAZOP workshops, potentially assisting with preparation, scribing, or action tracking.
- Philosophy Contribution: Assist in the development and writing of the Safety Design Philosophy and other relevant safety documents.
- Hazardous Area Classification: Develop the preliminary hazardous area classification schedules and drawings based on input from Process and Mechanical disciplines, under the guidance of the Lead Engineer.
- Preliminary Consequence Analysis (If Required): Perform initial consequence modelling (e.g., dispersion, fire, explosion effects) if needed for layout spacing or concept comparison purposes, using appropriate software tools.
- Document Preparation: Prepare drafts of safety reports, review minutes, and contribute technical safety input to documents prepared by other disciplines.
- Interface Support: Liaise with other disciplines to gather necessary data for safety assessments (e.g., fluid properties, equipment layouts, electrical sources).
- Review Participation: Participate in internal design reviews, providing safety-related comments and insights.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Safety, or related field).
- Relevant experience (typically 5 – 10 years) in technical safety engineering within the oil and gas industry.
- Experience participating in safety studies (HAZID, HAZOP).
- Knowledge of hazardous area classification principles and standards.
- Familiarity with consequence modelling software is an advantage.
- Good understanding of relevant safety codes and standards.
Other Requirements:
- Proven track record in Oil & Gas Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent knowledge of international design codes and standards.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering design and drafting software.
- Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced project environment.
