We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Earthworks Engineer
Location: Benin City, Edo
Employment Type: Contract
Job Purpose
- The Earthworks Engineer is responsible for managing excavation, embankment, and compaction works to achieve required formation levels, stability, and density in accordance with project specifications, FMWH guidelines, and international standards (AASHTO, ASTM, BS 1377).
Job Description
- Supervise clearing, grubbing, cut/fill operations, borrow pit utilization, and spoil disposal.
- Ensure soil compaction ≥95% MDD as per Proctor tests.
- Monitor geotechnical investigations and laboratory tests (Atterberg Limits, Particle Size Distribution, CBR).
- Supervise slope protection works.
- Coordinate with survey teams for correct levels, alignment, and tolerance.
Requirements
- Candidates should possess a B.Sc / B.Eng in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering with 7–10 years’ earthworks experience in road projects.
- COREN registration is mandatory.
- Knowledge of BS 1377, ASTM D698/D1557 (compaction), and Nigerian Highway Earthworks Specifications.
Skills & Competence:
- Strong expertise in soil stabilization methods (lime, cement, fly ash).
- Proficiency in geotechnical testing and result interpretation.
- Familiarity with heavy machinery (graders, compactors, dozers).
- Ability to manage large teams and multiple borrow/quarry sites.
