Job Title: School Accountant

Location: Ikorodu, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The School Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the school across its two campuses.
  • This role includes budgeting, financial reporting, fee management, payroll support, procurement oversight, and ensuring compliance with financial policies and regulations.
  • The accountant will work closely with school leadership to maintain accurate financial records, support decision-making, and ensure transparency and accountability in all financial matters.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Prepare, update, and maintain accurate financial records for both campuses.
  • Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
  • Handle accounts payable and receivable, including vendor payments and collections.
  • Track expenditure and ensure all transactions align with approved budgets.
  • Manage school budgets and provide variance analysis to support financial planning.

School Fees & Revenue Management:

  • Oversee billing, invoicing, and collection of school fees.
  • Maintain detailed records of student payments and outstanding balances.
  • Reconcile fee payments across both campuses and ensure accurate posting.

Payroll & Staff Financial Support:

  • Support payroll preparation, ensuring timely and accurate salary processing.
  • Maintain staff financial records, allowances, deductions, and statutory compliance.

Banking & Reconciliation:

  • Handle all bank transactions, deposits, and withdrawals for the school.
  • Prepare timely bank reconciliation statements for each campus.

Procurement & Inventory Oversight

  • Monitor procurement processes to ensure value for money on school purchases.
  • Work with admin and maintenance units to verify vendor invoices before payment.
  • Track inventory and financial documentation for supplies and resources.

Compliance & Audit:

  • Ensure adherence to internal financial policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Liaise with external auditors and prepare necessary audit documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality and secure handling of all financial information.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial management.
  • Proficiency in accounting software.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work across multiple sites and manage campus-specific financial needs.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and strong work ethics.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (mandatory).
  • Professional qualification or membership (ICAN, ACCA, ANAN) is an added advantage.
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a school or educational institution.
  • Experience managing multi-site financial operations is a strong advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial tools.
