The Reddington Multi-specialist Hospital built on nine floors provides fully comprehensive tertiary hospital solutions in most medical areas. Our journey as a healthcare provider began in March 2006 with the establishment of the Cardiac Centre, in Victoria Island, in association with the renowned Cromwell Hospital in London.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: General Surgeon

Location: Lagos

Job Description

  • The General Surgeon is responsible for performing surgical procedures to treat a variety of medical conditions affecting internal organs, soft tissues, and other body systems.
  • The role involves evaluating patients, planning and executing surgical interventions, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients to determine the need for surgery and the best surgical approach.
  • Perform surgical operations on various parts of the body, including but not limited to the abdomen, gastrointestinal tract, and soft tissues.
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative care, including consultations, follow-ups, and management of complications.
  • Work collaboratively with anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective surgical procedures.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds) to inform treatment decisions.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including operative notes and discharge summaries.
  • Educate patients and their families about surgical procedures, risks, and postoperative care plans.
  • Stay updated on the latest surgical techniques, technologies, and best practices.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, safety protocols, and ethical standards in all clinical activities.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing medical education.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Medical degree (MBBS, MD, or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification or eligibility in General Surgery.
  • Valid medical license to practice as a surgeon
  • Minimum of [5] years of experience in general surgery (including residency).
  • Proficiency in a wide range of surgical procedures and techniques.
  • Strong diagnostic, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively within a healthcare team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly in emergency situations.

Skills:

  • Experience with laparoscopic or minimally invasive surgery.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Participation in research, teaching, or mentoring junior medical staff.
