Job Title: In-House Counsel

Location: Lagos

About the job

  • As the in-house counsel with real-estate experience ,you will be crucial in providing legal support for all the business subsidiaries including our real estate and financial operations.
  • You will ensure compliance with laws and regulations, review contracts, and advise on legal matters related to real estate transactions, contracts management, financial transactions amongst other business concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Contract Management & Documentation: Prepare legal documents for all projects, deeds of assignment, agency and tenancy agreement. Maintain accurate records of legal documents and correspondence.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all activities comply with local, state, and federal laws (land use). Update all letters and assurance.
  • Legal Due Diligence: Carry out due diligence to Identify potential legal risk if any before finalizing an investment or purchase of real estate.
  • Provide guidance and support to clients.
  • Dispute Resolution: Liaise with legal consultant on legal matters and assist in the resolution of disputes through negotiation, mediation, or litigation as necessary.
  • Review and monitor ownership step plans and ensure that from a legal perspective all necessary pre- and post- close steps are taken.
  • Assist Customer service department in preparing letters e.g subscription letters, contract for sales etc.
  • Maintain the formal signing authority and contract approval process for the Managing Director and affiliate Directors.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to management on all matters.
  • Stay abreast of relevant laws and regulations to provide informed advice and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) Degree – Mandatory
  • Call to the Nigerian Bar
  • Master’s Degree (Optional but Advantageous)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ post-call experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Proven experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts.
  • Knowledge of labour law, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.
