Job Title: In-house Legal Counsel & Compliance Officer

Location: Nigeria (On site)

About the Job

  • We are seeking an In-house Legal Counsel & Compliance Officer who will be responsible for overseeing legal affairs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and safeguarding the company’s interests in all contracts, partnerships, and operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and support on contracts, partnerships, regulatory matters, and corporate governance.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements with merchants, OEMs, financial institutions, and trade partners.
  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian corporate laws, CBN regulations, e-commerce laws, NDPR, GDPR, and other applicable frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain compliance policies and frameworks across all departments.
  • Monitor industry regulations and ensure the business adapts to changes in laws affecting financial services and e-commerce.
  • Liaise with regulators, auditors, and external legal counsel where required.
  • Conduct training and awareness sessions for staff on compliance and legal risk management.
  • Investigate compliance breaches and recommend corrective measures.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB); BL required. Master’s degree or professional certification in compliance is an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years’ post-call experience in legal and compliance, with at least 2 years in financial services and/or e-commerce.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate law, contract law, fintech regulations, data privacy, and compliance frameworks.
  • Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex agreements.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Strong ethical standards and ability to balance business needs with compliance obligations.
