Job Title: Pre-Heating Furnace Operator
Location: Odongunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos

Department: Production / Operations
Reports To: Shift Supervisor / Production Manager
Job Summary
- The Preheating Furnace Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring the preheating furnace to ensure billets, scrap, or other metal materials reach the required temperature for rolling or melting processes.
- The role requires strong attention to safety, equipment maintenance, and process efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and control the preheating furnace according to production schedules.
- Monitor temperature gauges, pressure indicators, and furnace controls to maintain optimal heating conditions.
- Ensure billets or materials are preheated uniformly and to the specified temperature.
- Record operational data such as temperatures, fuel consumption, and heating times.
- Coordinate with the production and maintenance teams to ensure smooth furnace operation.
- Carry out regular checks on burners, valves, thermocouples, and control panels.
- Assist in the startup and shutdown procedures of the furnace.
- Follow all safety guidelines and report any equipment malfunction or unsafe condition immediately.
- Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained around the furnace area.
- Support preventive maintenance and participate in furnace lining inspection and replacement activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- SSCE / OND / Technical Certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, or Metallurgical Engineering.
- 2–5 years of experience operating a preheating or reheat furnace in a steel plant or similar heavy industry.
- Basic knowledge of combustion systems, fuel types, and heat control.
- Ability to read temperature charts and production parameters.
- Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.

- Ability to work in a high-temperature, industrial environment.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Troubleshooting and basic maintenance skills.
